What are linear elements and non linear elements? and I don't want answers with graph related

Linear element are those elements whose voltage current relationship is linear. For example voltage-current relationship of a resistor is V=IR, which is a linear equation. Similarly for an inductor the relation is V=L*dI/dt, which is again a linear differential equation. So these are the examples of linear elements. On the other hand diode, transistor have non-linear voltage current relationship, so they are non linear elements.

technically, what is the reason behind starting the motor star the delta connection .. and what other ways to do this rather than using " star-delta transformer"
