Rectilinear Propagation of lightIn a homogeneous transparent medium light travels in a straight line. This phenomenon is knows as rectilinear propagation of light.Let us conduct an experiment to demonstrate this Three cardboards A, B and C are taken and a pinhole is made at the center of each cardboard. The candle is placed at one end as shown here.Click on the candle to light it.The cardboards are arranged in such a way that the three pinholes and the candle flame are in a straight line. The candle flame can be viewed through the pinhole of the cardboard C.Now, displace one of the cardboards by clicking on it.The flame will not be visible from the pinhole of the cardboard C.From this, it is clear that line travels in a straight line.
