An I/P is a current to pneumatic transducer, typically 4-
20mA to 3-15 psig (in North America)
It is used with modulating control valve assemblies that
have pneumatic (input) positioners or for modulating
control valve assemblies with pneumatic actuators that have
no positioner, but have an actuator and a spring sized for
direct pneumatic control from an I/P signal.
A PLC outputs only an electronic control signal, so an I/P
is needed for either of the types of modulating control
valves described above. So count the number of those
kinds of devices and you'll know how many I/Ps you need.
