how can be connected thermocouple in series?what is the
need?
Answer Posted / carl_ellis
By connecting many thermocouples in series a device called a
thermopile can be constructed to produce substantial amounts
of voltage and current.
Two uses of thermopiles are
a) analytical measurement of infrared (IR) radiation.
1940's-1970's IR Ray-o-Tube or Radiamatic thermometers used
thermopiles to create a measurement signal.
b) source of electrical or heat power, such as the heat
energy transferred from hot junctions to cold junctions, the
Peltier Effect, where electric current transfers heat
energy. The transfer is bidirectional, Peltier cells are
commonly used for refrigeration, to remove heat in order to
achieve 'cold'.
