when ever u make more than one area then there will be either ABR or ASBR but without ABR or ASBR two areas will not be able to exchange LSAs which is required in ospf to know about each others network...and we crate virtual links between ospf communicating routers as all areas should be connected to area o which is backbone area for effective routing..
