why there is a phase shift lies between primary and
secondary voltages of a transformer?
Answer Posted / fredrick
Due to the input voltage,an emf is induced across the primary winding.Due to this alternating emf produced, there is flux flow across the core, around which primary and secondary windings are wound.when the flux produced by the pw links the secondary winding, the secondary winding doesn't allow the sudden increase or decrease in fux across it(basic working of an inductor coil). As a result secondary coil induces an opposing emf across it,which opposes the flux of primary winding.since it is an opposing emf induced, the emf's induced across the primary and secondary must have opposite signs and there should be 180deg phase shift b/w primary and secondary.
