SWA - Steel Wire Armour cable. This is a typical IEC
designation. The cable is protected by individual steel
wire wound around the cable in a continuos run. This type
of cable is usually used in an industrial application.
Since the cable is protected by the steel wired armour,
there is no need for additional mechanical protection i.e.
conduit. In addition to this as per IEC, the steel wire
armour also acted as a ground, so a ground wire in the
construction of the cable is not required.
