if HP LP Bypass opened in running condition then what happen
in 210 MW thermal plant
Answer Posted / k. v. vidyanandan
Consequences will be different with different loading conditions of the unit.
Whenever HPBP opens, immediately LP bypass will also open due to the increase in HRH pressure. This may lead to a reduction in condenser vacuum (i.e. increase in condenser pressure). If the condenser pressure goes beyond the set value, turbine will trip on Low Vacuum Protection. This may possibly happen if the unit was running at full load.
If HP BP opens at part load, still LP BP will open, however, chances of vacuum crossing the safe limit is less and therefore unit may survive. But, due to the opening of HP BP, MS pressure will fall, load will reduce and there will be drop in drum level. Operator will get adequate time to take corrective action in this case.
