Why Power generation in India is at 50Hz while in America
its 60Hz so is there any advantage/Disadvantage of this ??

Transmission losses would be high if we use 60hz and it is of high cost when compared. A motor that is designed to run on 60 Hz and is plugged into a 50 Hz system will turn 17% slower, the internal current will go up 17%, the amount of power (watts) will go down 17%, and the mechanical cooling will be 17% less. The end result will be that the motor will be using a higher current then what the motor was designed for, and this in turn will burn up the insulation of the electrical wiring which can result in burnout which could cause a fire because of the excessive heat. The reason that 120v service was chosen, was economic. Originally electricity was delivered to homes, and most businesses, for a single purpose and that was lighting. Can openers, TVs, washers, dryers, electrical factory machinery, etc. came later. At the time the most cost effective form of light bulb was a carbon filament bulb that operated best (optimally) at 100v to 110v. This, adjusted for transmission voltage drop, set most supply lines at 120v.
