artificial chromosomes are synthesized chromosomes in vitro for the cloning of large DNA fragment that not possibly cloned by the other vector such as plasmid etc. they can be segregated and are stable because they contain essential regions for the chromosomes maintaining and stability. such as centromere for segregation origin of replication and telomere they of many types bac yac hac and so on
