Difference Between Purity And Potency?
Answer Posted / navinpatel
Potency is a measure of drug activity expressed in terms of
the amount of drug required to produce an effect
(Physiological, Therapeutical, Inhibitor) of given
intensity. A highly potent drug (e.g., morphine) produce a
greater response at low concentrations, while a drug of
lower potency (ibuprofen, acetylsalicylic acid) produce a
small response at low concentrations.
Purity is the absence of unwanted substance either impurity
or contaminants. Purity is one of the most important
parameters considered in pharmaceutical products. More pure
the substance more is the activity.
