in the exciter the power is feeded from battry or control
or whatever.and we need it in the generators for the
stating . do we need it in the shutdown also?i mean the
exciter>

The Dc supply is used for excitation purpose firstly we
excite the generator with DC the rotor moves and generate
electricity during shut down the dc supply breaker should
be off.
