Microsilica is basically an admixture... When incorporated in cement mixes it serves as an accelerator because of its high puzzolonic activity corresponding to increased percenatges of silica in it. Also it absorbs mositure readily due to its spongy texture. So it accelerates the hydration process and similarly leads to fairly good compressive strengths.
