WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NEUTRAL AND EARTHING
Answer Posted / maddoxx
neutral in sigle phase line is the return path which is normally(off ckt) at 0 v.grounding is done for protection and current flows only during fault.Grounding is done basically on the non current carrying part of the device or system so if there is failure of insulation in motor or device the current also flows in chesis of device. so if we do grounding it flows impedance path) to ground(earth).and thereby protecting device from higher current.
in 3 phase line neutral has no current in balanced cond'n.But has in unbalanced.so this extra current can be bypass by connecting neutral to ground or to the supply neutral(which is also grounded).
"SO NEUTRAL IS A RETURN PATH(1 PHASE) AND GROUNDING IS A BYPASS PATH IN FAULT CONDITION ONLY"
