Spot welding is a resistance process, relying on the
electrical resistance of the components to generate heat
when a current is passed through them. The heat generated
is proportional to
 The square of the current (I2)
 The resistance of the components. (R)
 The time for which the current is passed. (T)
The spot welding machine makes use of properly shaped
copper alloy electrodes in order to apply pressure and
carry electrical current through the workpieces. Heat is
generated mainly at the merging point between two sheets.
This causes the material being welded to melt gradually,
thereby forming a molten bath, known as the weld mass. The
molten bath is held through the pressure applied by the
electrode tip and the encircling solid metal. In this type
of welding process, no filler metal is used.
