your process chain link with ABAP Program,suppose your ABAP
Code need some changes how you do this(your process chain is
in running stage)

We will execute the process chain till process above our program .
Then we will remove it from schedule .
If change is about to take more time and have not much dependency on following steps then we will manually execute rest of the steps .
If change is small then we will change the code activate it and will execute program and rest of the steps manually .
If following steps are more and time consuming then best way is to create a copy chain have steps from ABAP program on wards and schedule it in immediate mode .
Later on that can be deleted .
