why can't we increase the voltage by increasing the field
voltage in order to get higher voltage.so that we can
eliminate step up transformer

Every machine is designed for specific insulation level
against voltage level. So increasing voltage, insulation
can get puncture & as a result machine will get failure. so
voltage can't be increased from predefined / designed lavel.
