what is the use of matched filter at the reciever side?
Answer Posted / nawabumar(pakistan)
matched filter as the name suggest is a filter having an
impulse response matched to the expected or transmitted
pulse(matched but not same). If the pulse has the
waveform |
|
_______|\______(t) i.e a negative ramp than the
impulse response of filter is obatained by shifting the
mirror image of this waveform i.e from x(t) we obtain
x(T-t).
|
|
______|/______
where T is the symbol duration.convolution of these two
signals results in a signal having maximum value of SNR at
instant T(precisely T).So we sample the resulting signal at
instant T and try to achieve best possible detection at the
reciver.(decision making process after getting this sampled
value)refer to Digital Communication by Sklar 2/e page

Hope this helps
