difference between ac and dc
Answer Posted / electrokarz
* AC can be stepped-up or stepped down efficiently using
transformers where as DC cannot be stepped up or down
efficiently ( the losses in DC-DC buck/boost choppers are
quite high)
* Skin effect is observed in AC transmission systems but not
in DC.
* The need of brushes and commutators makes DC generators
expensive and needs regular maintenance where as AC machines
(generators and motors) are cheap and needs less or no
maintenance.
* Synchronization with system frequency is needed in AC systems.
