in railways why we use the power in 10,20 30kv,why not in
the multiple of 11kv

Answer Posted / nishant2110

Actually, Power rating generally comes in multiple of 11,
because of form factor.
Since form factor of sinusoidal wave is 1.11
So, wherever(generally in ac system) rating is given in RMS
value, they must have to multiply average value with
formfactor(1.11) and it comes as multiple of 11.

Now come to the real question,

Since, In Railways, DC series motor is used.
So, no need to specify rating in RMS values. That can be
specified in Average value. That's why, it is not in
multiple of 11kv.

Guys, this is my perception but i believe this is right
answer. Anyways, discussion will be appreciated.
