whats the difference between young's modulus,stress and
pressure.they have same unit
Answer Posted / kalyan kolavennu
yes, all of 3 have same unit (N/mm2)
1) Young's modulus is the property of material which is the
ratio of stress to strain within proportional limit.
E = stress/strain (N/mm2)
2) stress is the property of material which is the force of
resistance per unit area offered by a body against deformation.
Stress = Load/Area (N/mm2)
3) Pressure is the force per unit area.
Pressure = Force/Area (N/mm2)

Design a reinforced concrete combined footing (rectangular) for two columns located 3.60 metres apart. The overall sizes of the columns are 40cm x 40cm and 69cm x 60cm and the loads on them are 1000 kn and 1500 kn respectively. The space available for the width of the footing is restricted to 180cm. The S.B.C. of the soil is 280 kn/mm2 use M15 concrete.
