clutches are classified as :
Single plate or Dry type frictional clutch
&
multiplatev or Oil immersed clutch..
Single plate clutch is used in larger transmissions ie Buses, trucs etc
while multiplate clutch is used where smaller area is available thus to increase the frictional area number of plates is increased & for added heat cooling oil is used.
