why core of transformer in square or rectangular why not in
circle or ellipse if this what happens

In 3 Phase transformer,If the core is in circular shape, a rotating magnetic field will builds up and it will tends to rotate the secondary winding, (same as in the induction motor)
So the core is in the shape of square or in rectangle.
