Structural steel: For a thumb rule check in field, the
allowable weight which can be hung down for 10mm dia mild
steel rod, of yield value of 0, 25 KN/mm2 and applying a
factor of safety 2.00, will be how many kg?
Answer Posted / somnath dutta
total load can carry= .25*area of the bar(78.53)=19.63KN
if the F.O.S.=2, then the ultimate load on
it=19.63/2=9.81KN=9.81 x 100 = 981 kg ( 1 KN = 100 Kg)
therefore, the maximum load is 981kg.
