What is basic difference between Soft Starters And VFD
drives?

vfd means variable frequency it it is used where speed
variation is required it saves the energy also for example
we use vfd in air compressor when compressor is in load
mode motor runs at full speed & while compressor is in
unload mode the motor runs at its reduced speed up to 30 %
of full speed hence at this time energy saved.
we can achieve the speed above the rated speed & below the
rated speed using vfd the basic is the formula
NS = 120 * F / P
where ns = speed of motor
120 angle in electrical degree between two windings or coils
F = frequency which is to be varied
p= Number of poles
wher if no of poles = 2 fix
120 degree is fix
f= 0 to 70 above
put these values in formula & find results
while soft starters are the earlier version of vfd with
some less features than vfd

If a transformer primary winding operates at 240v, the secondary at 120v and the load is 1500w & the transformer is rated at 92% efficient, what's the current flowing through the primary winding of the transformer? What is the formula for finding this?
I just purchased a 4 position cam switch to be used to operate a 3-speed blower motor. The motor is a 10 amp motor and has 3 wires that are used to control speed. The cam switch was rated at 660V 20 amps but when I received it, I noticed that it has AC-15 operational current rating (Ie) of 4/5 amps. If I am reading the label correctly. the 4/5 amps is related to 440v/220V (Ue). Other ratings are AC-3: 5.5A, AC2: 7.5A and AC-4: 1.5A. My questions are 1) Is it safe to use this switch with the motor I have 2) what is the difference between the 20 amp Ith ratting and the Ie operational ratings?
