Our Alternator nameplate specifies a power factor of 0.8.
When the Alternator is on light load, the bus bar voltage
rises to 11240 volts, whereas the standard value is 10500 volts.
Is it ok to increase the power factor to 0.85 or 0.9. I am
afraid because the power factor on the name plate is only 0.8 ?

You can increase pf safely. 0.8 pf is employed for design
purpose only to fix the the maximum current.
