This is from the Google aptitude test, where both 96 and 1000...000 are offered as possible solutions. As other answers state, ninety-six is the highest number with 9 letters in its name, so should come next in sequence. However, so is one-googol (a 1 with 100 0s). I believe this is the answer Google is looking for, rather than 96.
