What is the principle of operation of simple jet propulsion

a simple jet propulsion system consists of a diffuser,
compressor, combustion chamber and a nozzle. air from the
atm enters the engine through the diffuser and it is being
compressed in the compressor. later combustion takes place
in the combustion chamber. and the exhaust is sent out
through the nozzle. thrust will be developed and the jet
propells
