If you are DEPLOY and UNDEPLOY java patch through SDM so why
you need JSPM?

Answer Posted / goutham

ABAP patches will be applied similar to the r/3 system. Java patches can be applied using the following tools.
1.sdm(software deployment manager)
2.JSPM for support packs from webas 7.0 plat form)
3.sapinst tool from version7.0

SDM TOOL:- it is located in usr/sap/sid/dvebmgs/sdm/program/remotegui.bat
sdm is a program which is started along with the instance.
sdm allows only one user to connect to the system.
sdm reads the properties from the file sdm repositary.sdc
sdm takes the backup of the sdm repositary fromtime to time.

sapinst tool- is used to apply the j2ee support packs. but from webas 7.0 sap recommends to apply through jspm.
it resides in usr/sap/sid/dvebmgs/j2ee
it uses sdm password to login. it reads the patches from the trans/Eps/in.
