How can one improve linearity of an RTD based temperature
measurement system?
Answer Posted / guest
RTD has +/- 0.4% nonlinearity when used over 0 to 200 degC.
This is due to the relationship R= R0*(1+aT+bT^2). The
change in resistance for 0 to 100 degC is 38.5ohms for a
Pt100, while it is lesser at 37.3 ohms fro 100 to 200 degC.
Using a two slope method, one for 0 to 100 deg and another
for 100 to 200 degC, the linearity error can be brought
down from +/- 4% to +/- 0.1%.
