why dc is not given to transformer

Answer Posted / divya.malika9@gmail.com

If a rated dc voltage is applied to the primary, flux produced
in the transformer will not vary but remain constant in
magnitude and therefore emf is not induced in the secondary.
since the resistance of primary winding is quite low, a heavy
current will flow through primary winding which may result in
the burning of the primary winding.
