what is difference in chemical composition between fe415
and fe500
Answer Posted / sjtbehera
Both are High yield strength steel deformed bar as per IS
1786 but the main difference is that Yield Stress or 0.2%
proof stress of fe 415 is 415 N/Sqmm and that of fe 500 is
500 N/sqmm. Fe415 is better for housing construction.
Rest of difference is given below:
1. Chemical composition:
Constituent/ Fe415 / Fe500
Carbon / 0.30 / 0.30
Sulphur / 0.06 / 0.055
Phosphorus/ 0.06 / 0.055
Sulphur & Phosphorus / 0.11 / 0.105
2. Elongation per cent,Min,on gauge length 5.65 sqrt( A)
where A is the cross sectional area of the test piece:
Fe415 :14.5
Fe500 :12.0
3.Tensile Strength,Min:
Fe415 :
10% more than the actual 0.2% proof stress but not less
than 485N/mm .sq
Fe500 :
8% more than the actual 0.2% proof stress but not less
than 545N/mm.sq
