can you check the current and voltage of a 12 V battery by
a digital multimeter in this fashion that apply the digital
multimeter across the battery terminals directly ? say yes
or no ...
i sais yes ...........

Before the answer we know little about battery:
The battery rating is expressed in AMPERE HOUR ie. 100AH
or more. In automotive rating is too high. for eg 100 AH
means this battery is capable giving 10 amps for 10 hour
(say C10) without reducing the specific gravity below 1190.
Ans: We can measure the voltage across the battery (normaly
this method only using in Industry). Current can not be
measured as ammeter is carrying very low resistance and if
u try ur meter will be damaged and may lead the battery
damage and acid flash, so take care
