why the indian frequency is 50 hz & U.S.Frequency of 60 hz
Answer Posted / noel
Basically in a historical sense it is because companies
especially westinghouse in the US and AEG in Germany were
the leading companies in producing electrical equipment at
the turn of the 19th century, and it is a complex story.
Many myths exist but it comes down to the use of frequency
to eliminate the flicker effect of lighting and the decision
by the companies to standardise at 60hz in the US and 50hz
in Europe. Before standardization numerous frequencies were
used by various generating companies. However most appliances
now come able with the ability to work between 50 and 60hz.
