I found answer for this. The mapping which i going to edit is already opened by some other person . That is why when i am trying to edit it is not allowing me.
That's it.
Any how through your answer i understood that i need know about version control.

If you don't mind could you please tell me what is version control ? When we need to go for this ? What are the version controls ? Where this check out option will be in version control ?
