according to the type or duty they perform transformers are
1-power transformer or transmission transformer
2-distribution transformer
power transformer includes step down,step up,and also auto transformer(variac)
transformers of o/p to 500kva are distribution transformers and generally step down the voltage from 11kv to 440v.
