What are the structural and stability consequences of
electron delocalization in amides (peptide bonds)?

Answer Posted / guest

peptide bonds are planar (sp2) because of hybridization,
and the aminogroup is not basic

delocalization makes the structure more stable

if the peptide bond were not locked, the the rotational
degrees of the fi and psi bonds would have rotational
degrees of freedom, and this would prevent protein from
folding AT ALL
