It is because the load to which the motor is going to be
connected say a pump is always rated in kW. Hence, from
selection point of view this becomes pretty easy.
Just imagine you are a lay person who has to buy a motor
for his 5 kW pump. Now in market if you will get a 5.5 kW
motor off the shelf. Now if motor was to be rated 5.5 kVA
you would get confused as to what is kVA and what is kW.
