Yes, Hm is absolutely right
Purpose of earthing is to provide a low potential path to
fault current which result in tripping the protective
device & thus cut off the supply. Once the supply is cut
off, both equipment & operator is safe. But remember
earthing witout the use of protective device in the circuit
is of no use.
