What will happen if the rotor of an induction motor is fed
from a 3 phase supply and the stator short circuited ?
Answer Posted / vinova
The rotor will run in the opposite direction of rotating
magnatic field of rotor because the induced current in the
stator set up stator rotating magnatic feld now due to
intraction of these two magnatic fields the rotor start
rotating in the opposite direction of rotor magnatic field
so that frequency of stator current become sf (slip* rotor
fed frequency)the interesting point here is that speed of
rotation of stator magnatic field will be very low (rotor
magnatic field- rotor speed). and the resultant magnatic
field will also rotate at very low speed in the space as
copaired to it happen when the stator is fed electrical
supply and rotor is short circuited

What is the need of earthing transformer for delta side of a transformer. (Think of a line section between a star/delta transformer at a grid substation and delta/star transformer at a village. An earthing transformer is there at the delta side of the star/delta transformer at grid substation). As there are no ground reference there will not be fault current if a one phase is grounded. Further L-L phase will be sensed by the primary side of star/delta transformer as a L-G fault. So why an earthing transformer is required at delta side
