Difference between subnetting & Vlan??
Answer Posted / abhishek
Concept of subnet = Network.
So Subnet is the breaking up of a network into many sub networks. . under a single IP Address domain .
Since IPv4 has a shortage of Public addresses so we do teh subnetting of a single Public IP address assigned to us by the ISP.
And this concept uses the fundas of prefix length denoted by /<number><0-32><cr>
.........
VLAN - its virtal lan. . breaking up of a single lan Segment(Switch) int varius LANS..on a single Switch/es.
.........
The difference -
Subnetting and VLAN (subneting is a Layer 3 functional concept)
whereas
Vlan is done on a layer 2 device with the help of subneting. .
for Vlan we neeed to subentting. .
For subnetting Vlan is not must. .
