passive means inactive it is just operating by power supply to an input 250ampAC= resister,capacitor,inductor,diode,transformer=output....what ever it given it could be change the by there functions in the circuit.output is just operating the input current by protecting the over voltage and current.. diode means it just changing the ac to dc or only forward by protecting the reverse unwanted power that-it.it just take the in power big=output small are some els what ever the in the function capacitor ,inductor,diode

active means just a moving,transistor,op-amp..whatever power will give in the transistor,op amp in it having a amplifier and gain-activity it will move to the out put...it just take the input power =out put gain,amplifier
