DSL is an abbreviation for Digital Subscriber Line. It is a technology capable of moving data over a standard phone line much faster than a regular phone connection. A typical DSL configuration will allow downloads up to speeds of 1.544 megabits per second, which is around 30 times faster than a 56-kbps modem. It can also provide upload speeds of 128 kilobits per second and higher. For accessing the Internet, this technology provides high connection and operation speeds, thus phasing out the modem.
