what is the function of breather in a transformer
Answer Posted / navin jain
breather is used to intake fresh air in the transformer tank for cooling purpose. The air is contaminated with moisture which may enter the tank and forms sludged with the insulation papers inside the tank and prevent free circulation of oil into the tank there by raising the temperature inside the tank. Therefore silica gels are provided in the breathers which absorbs the moisture content from the air.
