What is the difference between an allele and a mutation?
Answer Posted / pritesh chitte
Alleles are pair of two or more than two genes which control the same trait or character e.g Blood group alleles are A,B and O which how ever control the same character of Blood antigen (Glycosyl transferase)
However Mutation is the variants in the gene segment. But the question would arise the alleles also contain two genes which infact are variants.
so exactly what the difference is thatsuppose when you screen 100% plants if occurence of particular trait is less than 1% then it is in category of mutant. However if more than 1% then it will be considered to be an independent allele for that trait
