SAP Infoobject Exception Aggregation: A working example.
Sometimes the key figures that are displayed in a query are
not expected to be summed together in all situations. Take
the Headcount Key Figure below. The data is contained in
the cube by month in order to display the monthly salaries
(Figures are fictional). In the example data there are four
employees, two each in Oil & Gas and Refining with one
employee leaving at the end of July.
You can see from the queried data below that the monthly
figures are correct, two employees per sector. However the
Quarterly and Annual totals are incorrectly summed at six
and twenty four respectively.
The neatest way to deal with this is to use Exception
Aggregation. This is configured in the Infoobject directly.
The screen shot below contains the original key figure and
a second key figure that I've created with the Exception
Aggregation configured. In this case I have selected to use
the average figure for the summation using 0CALMONTH as the
reference characteristic as it's the lowest denominator.
I've added the second key figure to the report in order to
highlight the differences. As you can clearly see the
Headcount Exception key figure has totals of two for the
month, quarter and year totals. The fact that one employee
has decided to leave is also picked up and calculated
accordingly.
Obviously this is not always required, revenues for example
would generally always sum normally, there are however
exceptions, hence the name.
