If one of the 3 phase supply to the induction motor fails the unbalanced stator currents flow.The voltage across the healthy phases increases by (3)^(0.5) times...bcoz of this overheating of motor takes place..To avoid dis we can make 3 phase induction motor to run on 2 phase supply by connecting a capacitor since capacitor does not allow instantaneous change in voltage..in dis way we can make 3 phase induction motor run on 2 phase supply with the help of capacitor....
