which is heavier 1kg. of iron or 1kg. of cotton?and why?
Answer Posted / anurag
Both are same. The mass of each is 1 kg.But 1 important
point the weight of two may not be the same(mg). This is
because as the cotton is porous and can have some air
inside its pores as well as its volume will be
considerable. It will experience an upward buoyant
force.Hence the effective weight=the weight mg(act down)-
the upthrust(act up),which is volume of cotton(net with
pores)*density air*g.
