what the different types of cables used for 11kv and 33kv
over head work and what is the size of cable in sqmm.
Answer Posted / pavan
The Area of cross-section of a current carrying conductor,
depends upon the amount of current it has to carry.
1 sqmm of aluminium conductor has a capacity of carrying 1
Ampere of current and can be loaded upto 1.5A
1sqmm of Copper conductor has a capacity of carrying 1.2
Ampere of current and can be loaded upto 2.5A
So when Heavy loads are to be transmitted at long distances
we use high voltage so that the current becomes less, there
by decreasing the conductor size, losses etc.

A 15 kw squirrel cage motor having a maximum efficiency of 90% on a continuous full load has temperature rise of 42 degrees celcius after 30 min and 52 degrees celcius after 1 hr under the above operation conditions. a) calculate its final steady state temperature rise on continuous load and the heating time constatnt. b) if the motor is operated on a short load for 9 min estimate its temperature rise. c) calculate the maximum overload that can be applied on a short, 9 min rating so that the temperature rise is the same as the final steady state temperature rise on continuous load.
