What is the use of conservater, bucchos relay, breather in
a transformer?
Answer Posted / pria
buchholz relay is a gas actuated relay. due to fault, the
temperature of the transformer oil increases. as a result,
the oil vapourises and there is bubble formation. these
bubbles get acumulated on the rubber ball present inside
ths relay. as the viscosity of air bubbles is much lower
than that of oil, the ball moves lower and hence closes the
ckt for an alarm or trip ckt.
conservater: when the temp of oil increases, it expands and
hence increases the level of oil in the tank. the excess
oil goes to conservater.
breather: air enters the tank thro breather. but the should
not contain moisture as it reduces the dielectric strength
of the transformer oil. silica gel is used to absorb the
moisture. silica gel devoid of moisture is pink or white in
colour while wet silica is blue.
